Feeding a Community, Honoring a Legacy: The Story of Silantra

In partnership with PNC Bank, ASSETS is building opportunities for entrepreneurs in Central PA, brick by brick.

For Xiang Guo, food has always been tied to long hours, family sacrifice and the search for something better. At Silantra, every bowl and every Bing reflects that journey.

Silantra offers a fresh take on Chinese fast-casual dining. Behind the menu is a business built with intention, shaped by experience and a commitment to doing things differently.

Why They Started

Silantra was founded by Xiang and his wife Cindy who both grew up working in traditional Chinese takeout restaurants. From a young age, they saw the realities behind the scenes, including long hours and food that often prioritized speed over health. That experience stayed with them. They knew there was another way.

When they launched Silantra, their goal was simple but meaningful: create meals that are healthy, affordable and approachable. At the time, this kind of fast-casual concept was common in larger cities, but it had not yet made its way to Lancaster. They saw an opportunity to fill that gap while also connecting with the region’s strong local food community.

But Silantra is about more than food. It is about family. The Guos built this business in honor of their parents, who came to the United States from rural China in search of opportunity. Their parents worked 80 to 100 hours each week in restaurants so their children could have a different future. Now, Silantra carries that legacy forward, creating new opportunities for the next generation.

ASSETS’ Role

For more than a decade, ASSETS has been a partner in Silantra’s journey. Through accessible classes, Xiang and Cindy were able to strengthen their leadership and invest in their team. As the business grew, those tools helped them build a stronger internal foundation.

During the uncertainty of COVID, when many small businesses faced major challenges, ASSETS provided small loans and grants that helped Silantra stay steady and continue serving the community. This kind of support is about helping entrepreneurs build businesses that can adapt, grow and continue creating opportunity over time.

Looking Ahead

Silantra has expanded its footprint in recent years, reaching more customers across the region. Today, the business operates two locations in Lancaster and another in Camp Hill. With that growth has come new challenges.

Right now, Xiang and Cindy are focused on strengthening their foundation. By investing in their systems, team and operations, they are preparing the business for sustainable growth in the years ahead. Their vision remains grounded in the same values that started it all: quality food, care for community and a deep respect for the sacrifices that made this journey possible.
