Jessie Tuno has spent more than 25 years in the culinary industry. She has worked across kitchens, classrooms, and just about every corner of the food world. What never left her mind was the idea of creating a space of her own.
That dream became a reality with Butter and Bean, a warm and welcoming coffee shop originally launched inside Lancaster’s Southern Market. With support from ASSETS and its Finance Bootcamp, Jessie stepped into business ownership with confidence and a strong foundation. Today, Butter and Bean continues to serve the community from its location at Tanger Outlets Lancaster.
From Culinary Roots to Coffee Shop Owner
Butter and Bean was not built overnight. It grew out of years of hands-on experience, a deep love of food, and a passion for hospitality. Jessie knew what it took to run a kitchen, but launching her own business brought a different kind of excitement.
More than anything, she wanted to prove to herself that she could do it. And she has. Butter and Bean has become a local favorite, known for its great coffee, house-made syrups, and the kind of friendly atmosphere that makes people want to come back.
Looking Ahead
After closing their space in the city last November, Jessie and her team have missed being part of the downtown Lancaster community. Butter and Bean is actively exploring opportunities to return to the heart of the city and reconnect with the customers who made that space feel so special.
At the same time, the business is growing its reputation beyond coffee. Jessie is focused on expanding their reach through food, catering, and continued brand recognition. Whether it is a house-made syrup, a thoughtful menu item, or a catered gathering, she wants Butter and Bean to be top of mind when people think of quality and care.
